Steps checked against Anthropic's documentation on

Connect Claude Web to PopMCP

The steps depend on your Claude plan. Both paths end with the same PopMCP sign-in.

Add PopMCP on a Free, Pro or Max plan

You add the connector yourself on claude.ai. Free accounts get one custom connector, and PopMCP uses that one slot for every tool you connect.

  1. Sign in at app.popmcp.com, connect Shopify, Klaviyo or any other tool, and check each one shows as Verified.

  2. In the Claude desktop app or on claude.ai, go to Customize, then Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.

  3. Name it PopMCP and enter the URL below. There is no token to paste, and the OAuth client ID and secret stay empty.

    MCP server URL
    https://app.popmcp.com/mcp
  4. If Claude asks how to register, choose Register automatically. PopMCP supports dynamic client registration, not the Client ID Metadata Documents that Claude's published identity needs.

  5. Click Add and sign in to PopMCP. On the consent screen, tick only the connectors Claude should reach, then authorize.

  6. Turn PopMCP on from the + menu in a chat, then ask Claude to run list_connections before anything that writes.

    Try this prompt
Run list_connections and tell me which tools you can use.
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Add custom connector is under + Add. Drawn from Anthropic's help pages, not a screenshot. Your layout may differ.

The short answer

Claude on the web supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) through custom connectors: you give claude.ai the URL of a remote MCP server and Claude can call that server's tools in a chat. PopMCP is a hosted MCP server that puts 100+ business tools behind one URL, https://app.popmcp.com/mcp, so a single custom connector reaches every tool you connect in PopMCP. It works on every Claude plan, and you choose which connectors Claude may use.

What to ask Claude

Claude calls PopMCP's tools, PopMCP reads your connected accounts, and the answer comes back in the chat. The tool names are the real ones Claude calls.

You decide what Claude can reach

That is set in PopMCP, not in Claude Web. The sign-in ends on a consent screen that lists your connections.

OAuth sign-in, no API keys
Claude signs in to PopMCP with OAuth 2.1. There is nothing to paste, and your Shopify or Stripe credentials stay encrypted inside PopMCP.
You pick the connectors
The consent screen lists your connections. Claude reaches only the ones you tick.
Read-only where you want it
A workspace owner or admin sets each teammate to no access, read, or read and write, per connection.
Every call is on the record
Usage shows each request by user, connector and tool. Removing someone's access applies on the next request.

Before you connect Claude Web

Four things from Anthropic's help pages that decide how this behaves.

Free allows one custom connector
Custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and Free is limited to one. PopMCP's own Free plan also stops at two connections.
Team members cannot add it themselves
On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner adds the connector for the organization first. Members only see it after that, with a Custom label.
Too many tools slows a chat down
With ten or more connectors active, Anthropic suggests changing Tool access in the + menu from Auto to On demand. PopMCP loads a curated set per tool to keep the list short.
Research skips the approval prompt
Anthropic says Claude can call connector tools during research without asking again. Turn off tools that write before you start a research task.

Questions about Claude Web and PopMCP

Answered from Anthropic's documentation, checked on .

How do I add a custom connector in Claude on the web?

On claude.ai, go to Customize, then Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter a name and the remote MCP server URL, such as https://app.popmcp.com/mcp, and click Add.

Can I use Claude custom connectors on the free plan?

Yes, one. Anthropic limits Free accounts to a single custom connector. PopMCP serves every tool you connect through that one connector.

How does a Claude Team or Enterprise organization add PopMCP?

An Owner goes to Organization settings, then Connectors, and selects Add, then Custom, then Web, and enters https://app.popmcp.com/mcp. Each member then clicks Connect in Customize, then Connectors, and signs in to PopMCP with their own account.

Do I need an API key to connect Claude to PopMCP?

No. PopMCP uses OAuth 2.1 sign-in, so Claude never holds an API key. Your Shopify, Klaviyo or Stripe credentials stay encrypted inside PopMCP.

Does the connector also work in Claude Desktop and on mobile?

Yes. A remote connector belongs to your Claude account, so one you add on the web also appears in Claude Desktop, Cowork and the mobile apps at your next login.

Can Claude change data in my tools?

Only where you allow it. In PopMCP a new connection starts read-only until an owner or admin turns on write actions, and each teammate is set to no access, read, or read and write. Claude can also ask before it uses a tool.
