Claude Desktop MCP connector for Shopify, HubSpot and 100+ tools

Add one URL under Customize, then Connectors, and sign in with OAuth. Claude can then read live orders, deals, payments and tickets from the tools you already run. No API keys, no config file, and no server to host.

Steps checked against Anthropic's documentation on

Connect Claude Desktop to PopMCP

The steps depend on your Claude plan. Both paths end with the same PopMCP sign-in.

Add PopMCP on a Free, Pro or Max plan

You add the connector yourself. Free accounts get one custom connector, and PopMCP uses that one slot for every tool you connect.

  1. Sign in at app.popmcp.com, connect Shopify, HubSpot or any other tool, and check each one shows as Verified.

  2. In the Claude desktop app or on claude.ai, go to Customize, then Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.

  3. Name it PopMCP and enter the URL below. There is no token to paste, and the OAuth client ID and secret stay empty.

    MCP server URL
    https://app.popmcp.com/mcp
  4. If Claude asks how to register, choose Register automatically. PopMCP supports dynamic client registration, not the Client ID Metadata Documents that Claude's published identity needs.

  5. Click Add and sign in to PopMCP. On the consent screen, tick only the connectors Claude should reach, then authorize.

  6. Turn PopMCP on from the + menu in a chat, then ask Claude to run list_connections before anything that writes.

    Try this prompt
Run list_connections and tell me which tools you can use.
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Add custom connector is under + Add. Drawn from Anthropic's help pages, not a screenshot. Your layout may differ.

The short answer

Claude Desktop supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) through custom connectors: you give Claude the URL of a remote MCP server and it can call that server's tools in a chat. PopMCP is a hosted MCP server that puts 100+ business tools behind one URL, https://app.popmcp.com/mcp, so a single custom connector reaches every tool you connect in PopMCP. Claude signs in with OAuth, and you choose which connectors it may use.

What to ask Claude

Claude calls PopMCP's tools, PopMCP reads your connected accounts, and the answer comes back in the chat. The tool names are the real ones Claude calls.

More to paste into Claude

  • What were yesterday's Shopify sales, and how do they compare with last week?
  • List today's orders over $200 that have not shipped yet.
  • Which products sold out this week?

You decide what Claude can reach

That is set in PopMCP, not in Claude Desktop. The sign-in ends on a consent screen that lists your connections.

OAuth sign-in, no API keys
Claude signs in to PopMCP with OAuth 2.1. There is nothing to paste, and your Shopify or Stripe credentials stay encrypted inside PopMCP.
You pick the connectors
The consent screen lists your connections. Claude reaches only the ones you tick.
Read-only where you want it
A workspace owner or admin sets each teammate to no access, read, or read and write, per connection.
Every call is on the record
Usage shows each request by user, connector and tool. Removing someone's access applies on the next request.

Before you connect Claude Desktop

Four things from Anthropic's help pages that decide how this behaves.

Free allows one custom connector
Custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and Free is limited to one. PopMCP's own Free plan also stops at two connections.
Claude connects from Anthropic's cloud
Even in the desktop app, Claude reaches a connector from Anthropic's servers, so the MCP server has to be public. PopMCP is. The claude_desktop_config.json file is for local servers and is not used here.
Sign-in settings cannot be edited
You cannot change a custom connector's OAuth details after adding it. To change them, remove the connector and add it again.
Research skips the approval prompt
Anthropic says Claude can call connector tools during research without asking again. Turn off tools that write before you start a research task.

Questions about Claude Desktop and PopMCP

Answered from Anthropic's documentation, checked on .

How do I add an MCP server to Claude Desktop?

Go to Customize, then Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter a name and the remote MCP server URL, such as https://app.popmcp.com/mcp, and click Add. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it under Organization settings, then Connectors.

Do I need to edit claude_desktop_config.json?

No. That file is for local MCP servers that run on your computer. PopMCP is a remote server, so you add it as a custom connector in Customize, then Connectors, with no file to edit.

Does it work on Claude's free plan?

Yes. Anthropic lets Free accounts add one custom connector, and PopMCP serves every tool you connect through that one. PopMCP's own Free plan is read-only and holds two connections.

Do I need an API key to connect Claude Desktop to PopMCP?

No. PopMCP uses OAuth 2.1 sign-in, so Claude never holds an API key. Your Shopify, HubSpot or Stripe credentials stay encrypted inside PopMCP.

Which of my tools can Claude reach?

Only the connectors you tick on the PopMCP consent screen. A workspace owner or admin can also set each teammate to no access, read, or read and write per connection.

Will the connector show up in Claude on the web and on my phone?

Yes. A remote connector belongs to your Claude account, so one you add in the desktop app also appears on claude.ai, in Cowork and in the mobile apps at your next login.
