AI marketing tools: the short answer

The AI marketing tools worth connecting first are the ones you already pay for: Meta Ads, Google Ads, GA4, Search Console, Klaviyo and HubSpot. Claude or ChatGPT can reach each one through an MCP server, either the vendor's own or a hosted one. What matters is which operations that server exposes, and which of them write.

Why look at the tools you own first

A new AI copywriting or image app can produce an email. It cannot say which Klaviyo flow lost revenue last month, because it has never seen your account.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI client call tools in another app. Once a tool is connected, the model reads the live account instead of whatever you pasted in. What is MCP? explains the protocol.

This post covers what each connection exposes. For prompts and worked examples, see MCP use cases for marketing. For the survey evidence on where AI helps, see AI marketing in 2026.

What each tool exposes

The tool names in this post come from PopMCP's connectors, because those are the ones we can list exactly. A vendor's own server has different names and a different set.

Write tools need a paid plan. On Free they are not exposed at all. On a paid plan, a write runs when the model calls it.

Every connected provider also gets four helper tools: <provider>_search_tools, <provider>_describe_tool, <provider>_raw_operation and <provider>_connection_profile. They are how the model reaches operations outside the loaded set.

Ads: Meta Ads and Google Ads

The Meta Ads connector loads 41 tools out of 224 operations. The reporting ones are meta_ads_get_account_insights, meta_ads_get_campaign_insights, meta_ads_get_adset_insights and meta_ads_get_ad_insights.

The loaded set also writes. meta_ads_update_campaign can rename a campaign, pause or resume it, and change its budget or bid strategy in one call.

The Google Ads connector loads all 21 of its tools, and 14 of them write. The reads are google_ads_search and google_ads_search_stream for GAQL queries, plus google_ads_generate_keyword_ideas and google_ads_generate_keyword_historical_metrics for keyword planning.

The writes include google_ads_mutate_campaigns, google_ads_mutate_campaign_budgets, google_ads_mutate_ad_groups, google_ads_mutate_ad_group_criteria for keywords and negatives, and google_ads_apply_recommendation. Each mutate tool can create, update or remove, so the tool that pauses a campaign is the same one that can remove it.

Both vendors publish their own servers. Meta hosts an Ads MCP server at https://mcp.facebook.com/ads that covers reporting, creating and editing campaigns, catalogs, and A/B tests. Google's open-source Google Ads MCP server lists three tools, all of which retrieve information: search, get_resource_metadata and list_accessible_customers.

Email and SMS: Klaviyo

The Klaviyo connector loads 35 tools out of 308 operations. For audits, the useful ones are klaviyo_get_flows, klaviyo_query_flow_values, klaviyo_query_campaign_values, klaviyo_get_segments and klaviyo_query_metric_aggregates.

Know that klaviyo_send_campaign is in the loaded set, next to klaviyo_create_campaign.

Klaviyo's own MCP server comes as a remote server at https://mcp.klaviyo.com/mcp or a local one. Adding read-only=true to its URL disables every tool that writes. Klaviyo also lets you create a read-only private API key, which blocks writes at the source whichever server you use.

Analytics: GA4

The GA4 connector has 21 tools. ga4_run_report does most of the work. ga4_batch_run_reports runs up to five reports in one call, ga4_run_realtime_report covers the last 30 minutes, and ga4_get_metadata lists every dimension and metric on the property, custom ones included.

Its four writes are ga4_create_audience, ga4_create_key_event, ga4_create_custom_dimension and ga4_update_property.

Google's own Google Analytics MCP server is open source, marked experimental, runs locally and asks for the read-only Analytics scope. It has a run_funnel_report tool. PopMCP's GA4 tool list does not.

If your product analytics live in Mixpanel, that connector loads mixpanel_funnels_query, mixpanel_retention_query and mixpanel_segmentation_query.

SEO: Search Console

The Search Console connector has 22 tools. gsc_query_search_analytics is the raw query. The rest answer specific questions:

  • gsc_compare_periods compares a period with the one before it, or with the same dates last year.
  • gsc_striking_distance_queries finds queries sitting just off the top positions.
  • gsc_low_ctr_queries and gsc_keyword_cannibalization do what their names say.
  • gsc_batch_inspect_urls runs URL Inspection on up to 20 URLs in one call.

Search Console keeps the last 16 months of data, so a year-over-year comparison fits.

CRM: HubSpot

The HubSpot connector loads 55 tools, with 1,000+ operations reachable through tool search. Marketing teams mostly need hubspot_contacts_search, hubspot_deals_search, hubspot_campaigns_list, hubspot_marketing_emails_list, hubspot_forms_list and hubspot_lists_list.

HubSpot's own remote MCP server became generally available on 13 April 2026. It reads CRM records, campaigns, landing pages and blog posts. It creates and updates contacts, companies, deals, tickets, line items, products and activities.

A HubSpot Service Key carries object-level scopes such as crm.objects.contacts.read, so you decide what the connection can touch when you create the key. AI CRM with MCP goes further on the CRM side.

Reviews: Okendo

The Okendo connector is close to read-only by nature. okendo_list_reviews, okendo_list_product_reviews, okendo_get_product_reviews_keywords and okendo_get_product_reviews_summary give the model customer language to reuse in ad copy and subject lines.

Vendor server or one hosted endpoint

Use the vendor's own server when it fits. It often does.

A vendor server is enough when:

  • You need one or two tools.
  • The vendor has a tool a third party lacks, such as the funnel report in Google's Analytics server.
  • You want a server that cannot change the account. Klaviyo's has a read-only=true switch, and Google's Google Ads server lists no tool that edits a campaign.

A hosted layer like PopMCP helps when:

  • You want ads, email, analytics, SEO and CRM answering in the same chat. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector, so one endpoint that carries several tools goes further there.
  • You run several brands or clients and want each in its own workspace, with separate connections.
  • The official server only runs locally and you want it in a web client, which takes a remote URL.
  • You do not want provider credentials in the AI client. PopMCP stores them encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, and the client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth.

Where PopMCP is the weaker pick:

  • It is a connection layer. It does not build workflows or write content.
  • Its catalog is 100+ business tools, far fewer apps than Zapier. See PopMCP vs Zapier MCP.
  • The Google connectors need your own Google OAuth client, and Google Ads also needs a developer token. That is more setup than clicking "Sign in with Google".
  • It has no approval step. A write runs when the model calls it.

How to connect your marketing stack

  1. Pick one question you answer every week. "Which campaigns spent money without converting?" is a good first one.
  2. Connect only the tools that question needs. The Free plan allows 2 connections and exposes read tools only.
  3. Add https://app.popmcp.com/mcp to your AI client as a custom connector. Claude supports remote MCP custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. See the Claude setup steps.
  4. Approve the PopMCP sign-in and tick the connectors that client may reach.
  5. Try a read first. Ask for a number you can check in the tool's own dashboard.

ChatGPT works too, with plan limits. OpenAI's developer docs list developer mode for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web. Its help center says full MCP support with write actions is rolling out in beta to Business, Enterprise and Edu.

Where the numbers go wrong

Currency and time zone. Ask the model to read them before it compares anything. meta_ads_get_ad_account returns the account currency, and ga4_get_property returns the property's time zone and currency code.

Conversions that do not add up. Each platform reports its own conversions, so Meta's total, Google Ads' total and your store's orders rarely match. Ask for every figure to be labelled with its source.

Missing context. The model does not know your margins, your season or this quarter's goal unless you say so.

Budget changes. On a paid plan, the model can change a Meta or Google Ads budget in one call, through meta_ads_update_campaign or google_ads_mutate_campaign_budgets. Whether you are asked first depends on your AI client. AI marketing automation covers who confirms a write.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best AI marketing tools?

Start with the ones that already hold your data: your ad platforms, GA4, Search Console, your email tool and your CRM, connected to Claude or ChatGPT through MCP. Add a specialist AI app only where those leave a gap.

Can ChatGPT connect to my marketing tools?

Yes, through developer mode and custom MCP apps. OpenAI's help center says full MCP support with write actions is rolling out in beta to Business, Enterprise and Edu plans.

Can Claude read my Google Ads or Meta Ads account?

Yes, once an MCP server for that account is added as a custom connector. Claude supports remote custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free users are limited to one.

Do I need a separate AI tool for each channel?

Usually not. One AI client connected to several tools can compare channels in a single answer. A single-channel tool only sees its own data.

Is connecting AI to my ad accounts risky?

Reads cannot change the account. Writes can: on a paid plan, a connected model can pause a campaign, change a budget or remove a campaign in Meta Ads or Google Ads. PopMCP's Free plan exposes no write tools, and a read-only provider key blocks writes at the source. On a paid plan, keep your client's confirmation prompt on.

What does it cost to connect my stack with PopMCP?

The Free plan has read-only tools and 2 connections. Starter is $39 a month with 15 connections and write actions. Tool calls are never metered on any plan. See pricing.
