Best SEO MCP servers: the short answer

The best SEO MCP servers are the ones the SEO vendors publish themselves: Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking for keywords and backlinks, DataForSEO for raw SERP data, Google Analytics for traffic, Microsoft Clarity for on-page behaviour, Screaming Frog for crawls and Similarweb for competitor traffic. Google Search Console is the gap. We found no server for it published by Google, so people use a community one or a hosted layer.

Quick list: SEO MCP servers compared

Each row was checked on 6 October 2026 against the vendor's own docs or GitHub repo. Eight of the nine are published by the company whose data they serve. The Search Console server is a community project, maintained by AminForou on GitHub.

Remote means you paste a URL and sign in. Local means the server runs on your computer, so Claude and ChatGPT in the browser cannot reach it unless you host it yourself. Remote vs local MCP servers covers the trade-offs.

These four sell SEO data. Ahrefs and Semrush count MCP calls against the same API units as their APIs, so check your plan's allowance before you let a model loop over a keyword list.

Ahrefs MCP

Ahrefs hosts its server at https://api.ahrefs.com/mcp/mcp. It is included on every paid plan from Lite up. You sign in on a consent screen, and Ahrefs creates a dedicated API key with an MCP scope for that connection. Workspace admins can cap the monthly API units each key may spend.

The tools come in groups: Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, SERP overview, Rank Tracker, Site Audit, Brand Radar, Web Analytics and the Search Console data inside your Ahrefs projects. Ahrefs notes that its server advertises more tools than some clients accept. A tools parameter on the URL picks the groups you want, such as ?tools=site-explorer-overview,keywords-explorer.

Two limits matter. Calls use API units from your monthly allowance, the same as direct API use. And each plan caps the rows per request: 100 on Lite, 250 on Standard, 500 on Advanced.

The older open source ahrefs-mcp-server repo is archived. Ahrefs says it is not maintained and does not work with MCP keys.

Semrush MCP

Semrush's server lives at https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp and supports streamable HTTP only. OAuth is the default sign-in. An API key in a header works for agents that cannot do OAuth.

It exposes the SEO API, the Trends API at your subscription level, and the read-only methods of the Projects API. So a model can read your projects but cannot create one or change its settings. The tool list is short: research tools such as keyword_research, organic_research, backlinks_research and site_audit, plus get_report_schema and execute_report to run a report.

For SEO data you need a plan that includes 50,000 API units: Semrush One Starter or Pro+, or SEO Classic Pro or Guru. SEO Classic Business and Semrush One Advanced need an API units package on top. Every request spends units, as it does on the API.

SE Ranking MCP

SE Ranking's server is at https://api.seranking.com/mcp. It uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so most clients need only the URL.

It has 160+ tools for keyword research, backlink analysis, domain analysis, website audits, AI search visibility, SERP analysis and project management. One catch from the docs: a sub-account on a shared workspace cannot connect any tools, because API access sits with the master account.

DataForSEO MCP Server

DataForSEO sells SEO data by API, and its server is built for that. Instead of one tool per report, it lets the model browse the DataForSEO API documentation and make authenticated API requests. That keeps the tool list small and the whole API within reach.

The hosted server is at https://mcp.dataforseo.com/v3/mcp and signs in with OAuth 2.0. You can also run it locally with npx dataforseo-mcp-server@latest and your API login and password. The code is Apache-2.0 licensed. This is the v3 server. DataForSEO has deprecated the earlier one.

Your own site's data

Rank trackers estimate. These three report what happened on your own site.

Google Search Console: no official server

We found no Search Console MCP server published by Google as of 6 October 2026. Google's Analytics repo covers Analytics only.

The most starred community option is AminForou/mcp-gsc, with about 1,850 stars and an MIT licence. Its latest release, 0.4.1, shipped in September 2026. It has 20 tools: search analytics by query and page, period comparison, URL inspection for up to 10 URLs at once, and sitemaps.

It runs locally in Python, and you bring your own Google credentials, either OAuth with your own account or a service account. The tools that add or delete a site, or delete a sitemap, are off by default. They turn on only when you set GSC_ALLOW_DESTRUCTIVE to true.

Nobody is obliged to maintain a community server. Read its release history before you rely on it.

Google Analytics MCP Server

This one is Google's own, published under the googleanalytics organization on GitHub and labelled Experimental. It runs locally with pipx run analytics-mcp. The README's setup steps are written for Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist.

It has seven tools, among them run_report, run_funnel_report and run_realtime_report, plus tools that list accounts, properties and custom dimensions. Your credentials must carry the Analytics read-only scope, so the server cannot change a property. The code is Apache-2.0 licensed and had about 3,400 stars on 6 October 2026.

Microsoft Clarity MCP Server

Microsoft's server reads Clarity, its analytics and session recording tool. Run it with npx @microsoft/clarity-mcp-server and a Clarity API token. It has three tools: query-analytics-dashboard for traffic and behaviour metrics, list-session-recordings, and query-documentation-resources for Clarity's docs.

It is MIT licensed. Clarity answers the question rank data cannot: what a visitor did after the click.

Crawling and competitor traffic

Screaming Frog SEO Spider MCP

Screaming Frog added an MCP server to its desktop crawler in version 24.0, released on 19 May 2026. A model can start a crawl, analyse it and export reports. The user guide has setups for Claude Desktop and LM Studio.

It is a paid licence feature and does not work in the free version. The SEO Spider must be in database storage mode, which is the default. The server also includes tools that run Node.js scripts and install npm packages. Those are disabled until you enable them in the MCP Server settings.

Screaming Frog says not every feature is supported through MCP yet.

Similarweb MCP

Similarweb's server is at https://mcp.similarweb.com. You need a Similarweb subscription with API or MCP access, which means an API-only, Business or Enterprise plan. Calls use data credits the same way API responses do.

It covers what you cannot measure yourself: another site's traffic and engagement, traffic sources, referrals, audience and SERP data. Similarweb publishes setup guides for Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Manus, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity.

Where PopMCP fits

We run PopMCP, so weigh this section with that in mind. It is not in the table above because it is not a vendor's own server.

PopMCP is a hosted MCP layer for business tools, behind one URL: https://app.popmcp.com/mcp. Its SEO MCP servers stack puts Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Semrush, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity on that URL. DataForSEO and Similarweb are in the catalog too.

It is the better pick when:

  • You want Search Console without running anything. The Search Console connector is hosted, so it works in Claude and ChatGPT on the web. It has 22 tools, of which 4 write. Some answer one SEO question each, such as gsc_striking_distance_queries, gsc_low_ctr_queries and gsc_keyword_cannibalization.
  • You want the tools in one chat. A question like "which pages lost clicks, and why" needs Search Console, a backlink tool and analytics together. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector, so one endpoint that carries several tools goes further there.
  • You manage several sites. Each client gets its own workspace with its own Search Console and GA4 connections. See MCP for agencies.

The vendor's own server is the better pick when:

  • You are on Ahrefs Lite, Standard or Advanced. PopMCP's Ahrefs connector takes an Ahrefs API key, and Ahrefs issues those on its Enterprise plan. Ahrefs' own MCP works from Lite.
  • You use one tool on one site. One sign-in to Ahrefs or Semrush is less setup than a layer in between.
  • You need a crawler. PopMCP does not crawl sites. Use Screaming Frog for that.
  • Your security team needs a SOC 2 report from every vendor. PopMCP does not claim one.

Two more things to know. Search Console and GA4 connect through your own Google OAuth client, so expect some Google Cloud setup. And PopMCP does not hold writes for review. A write, such as submitting a sitemap, runs when the model calls it.

How to pick an SEO MCP server

  1. Start with the data you already pay for. Every server here needs an account with its vendor. If you have Ahrefs or Semrush, connect that first.
  2. Add your own site's data next. Search Console and Analytics show what happened. Keyword tools estimate what might.
  3. Check where it runs. A local server works in Claude Desktop, Cursor and coding agents. Claude and ChatGPT in the browser need a remote one.
  4. Watch the meter. Ahrefs and Semrush spend API units, Similarweb spends data credits. Set a cap where the vendor offers one. Ahrefs lets admins cap units per key.
  5. Keep the list short. Each server adds tool definitions to the model's context. See MCP token limits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best MCP server for SEO?

It depends on the data you need. For keywords and backlinks, use the server from the tool you already pay for: Ahrefs, Semrush or SE Ranking. For your own site's clicks and indexing, you need a Search Console server. For revenue and behaviour, add Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.

Is there an official Google Search Console MCP server?

Not that we could find on 6 October 2026. Google publishes an experimental MCP server for Google Analytics, not for Search Console. The usual choices are a community server such as mcp-gsc, which runs on your computer, or a hosted connector such as PopMCP's Search Console server.

Does Ahrefs have an MCP server?

Yes. Ahrefs hosts a remote server at https://api.ahrefs.com/mcp/mcp, available on paid plans from Lite up. Calls use your plan's API units, and each plan caps the rows per request.

Does Semrush have an MCP server?

Yes, at https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp. It needs a plan that includes API units, and every request spends units as it does on the Semrush API.

Are SEO MCP servers free?

The server software often is. mcp-gsc, Google's Analytics server, Microsoft's Clarity server and DataForSEO's server are open source. The data is another matter. Ahrefs and Semrush calls draw on your plan's API units, and Similarweb calls on data credits. SE Ranking and DataForSEO need an account with API access.

Can I use SEO MCP servers with ChatGPT?

Yes, if the server is remote. Ahrefs, Semrush and Similarweb publish ChatGPT setup guides. Local servers, such as mcp-gsc and the Google Analytics server, need a client that can start a program on your computer. For the steps, see how to connect ChatGPT to your tools.

How many SEO MCP servers should I connect?

As few as the question needs. A keyword tool plus Search Console covers most research. Add analytics when you want revenue next to rankings, and a crawler when the question is technical.
