What teams ask before putting Moz behind an AI client.
Does this work with my Moz Pro subscription?
Moz API access is a separate subscription from Moz Pro, so a Pro plan on its own will not issue you a token. Moz does run a free API tier for testing, so you can connect and try the connection before committing to a paid level. Whatever tier the token belongs to is what the connection can draw on.
What does the connect form ask for?
One field: API token. Copy the token from the Moz API dashboard at moz.com/api/dashboard and paste it in — there is no OAuth app to register, no client secret, and no redirect URL to configure. The field is stored as a password, and every call runs against that token's API subscription.
Can it change my Moz Local listings, or only read them?
Both, depending on the access mode you pick. Reads cover your locations, every live listing network by network with its url and state, the exact NAP fields where a network's value differs from yours, Google Business Profile impressions, and ranking history for a location's tracked keywords. Writes cover creating a location, updating it, changing its service tier, marking it permanently closed, and canceling its subscription — updates propagate to the live listings on every connected network, creating a location is billable, and a tier change changes what you are billed. There is also a trigger for when Business Profile impressions fall below a threshold you set.
How do I stop an agent from burning through my Moz API rows?
The quota call reports rows used versus allotted for the current billing period, the reset date, and whether overages are switched on, so ask for it before a wide sweep of competitor domains. Batching helps too: site_metrics_multiple returns the same metrics as a single-target lookup for up to 50 targets in one call. A 'Moz data allowance running low' trigger fires when the rows left on your plan drop below the level you set.
Can it answer competitor link questions, like who links to them but not to us?
Yes — link_intersect is the link-gap Venn: sites linking to all of one set of domains and none of another. For a single pair, link_status says whether a source still links to a target and whether that link is follow, nofollow, redirect or deleted, and links_from_domain shows every link coming from one specific root domain. Recently gained and recently lost referring domains both cover the last 60 days.
Does it cover keyword research as well as backlinks?
It does. keyword_suggestions returns related ideas with volume and difficulty, keyword_metrics gives Volume, Difficulty, Organic CTR and Priority for one keyword in a single call, and keyword_search_intent scores informational, navigational, commercial and transactional so you can match page type to intent. On the rankings side, ranking_keywords lists the terms a site already ranks for in Google's top 50 with position, volume and difficulty, and ranking_keywords_count buckets that total by position.
Do I have to run or host the Moz MCP server myself?
No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.
