What teams ask before putting Mailchimp behind an AI client.

Where do I get the Mailchimp API key PopMCP asks for?

Generate a Marketing API key in your Mailchimp account and paste it into the API key field on the connect form. There is no OAuth screen and nothing to install on your side. Mailchimp keys carry a datacenter suffix such as -us21, which PopMCP reads off the key automatically, so you never have to look your datacenter up or enter it separately.

Can the agent actually send a Mailchimp campaign, or only draft one?

It can go the whole way: create the campaign, set its content, fire a test to yourself, schedule it, and send it. Those map to post_campaigns, put_campaigns_id_content, post_campaigns_id_actions_test, post_campaigns_id_actions_schedule and post_campaigns_id_actions_send. If you would rather approve the moment of no return, leave approval-required-for-writes on so the send waits for you, or set the connection to read-only and use it purely for reporting.

Which Mailchimp events can PopMCP watch?

Six arrive by webhook: contact subscribed, contact unsubscribed, contact details updated, email address cleaned, contact changed email, and campaign sent. Polled ones include contact record changed, contact confirmed opt-in, campaign created, campaign went out, campaign report ready, automation created, automation started and audience created. Webhook events fire as Mailchimp reports them; polled ones are checked on a schedule, so they land a little behind.

How many Mailchimp operations does the server expose, and why doesn't my client show them all?

The connection covers 290 operations across 26 API modules — 145 read and 145 write. Loading all of them into one AI client would bury the tools you actually use, so about 40 load by default and the rest stay searchable, with the full-catalog toggle available when you want everything visible. The biggest modules by far are Lists at 69 operations and E-commerce at 60, followed by Campaigns and Reports at 22 each.

Does it reach my Mailchimp e-commerce store data?

Yes. The agent can list your stores, their orders and their products through get_ecommerce_stores, get_ecommerce_stores_id_orders and get_ecommerce_stores_id_products, and write new ones with post_ecommerce_stores, post_ecommerce_stores_id_orders and post_ecommerce_stores_id_products. That is what makes purchase-versus-audience questions answerable in a single request, since orders and list members sit behind the same key.

What happens when the agent removes someone from an audience?

delete_lists_id_members_id archives the list member rather than erasing them, which is Mailchimp's own behavior. The genuinely destructive calls are delete_lists_id, which removes an entire audience, and delete_campaigns_id. Those are the ones worth holding behind approval-required-for-writes, or excluding entirely by running the connection read-only.

Do I have to run or host the Mailchimp MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?

Why do only 40 of the 290 tools load by default?

Loading 290 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts.
