Google Business Profile MCP server questions

What teams ask before putting Google Business Profile behind an AI client.

Why does every call fail even though the connection authorized fine?

Almost always the Business Profile quota. Google starts new Cloud projects with none of it at all, so the APIs return errors until Google approves a written access request — and authorizing the connection never tests that. Submit the access request first, using the link in the field help on the connect form, then connect. This is the one Google connector where a clean authorization tells you nothing about whether calls will work.

Do I need my own Google Cloud OAuth client?

Yes. The connect form asks for an OAuth Client ID and an OAuth Client Secret from a Google Cloud project you control, then hands you to Google's consent screen to authorize PopMCP. You never paste an API key. What the connection can reach is whatever accounts and locations that Google login already manages.

Can the agent read and reply to reviews across every branch?

Yes. list_recent_reviews and list_reviews cover one location, newest activity first, and batch_get_reviews reads reviews for several locations in a single call — the right shape for a chain. reply_to_review posts the business reply or replaces the existing one, get_review shows a single review with whatever reply is currently on it, and delete_review_reply takes a reply back down. A webhook also fires the moment a new review lands, and another fires only for one- and two-star ones.

Can it upload photos to a location?

It can add a photo or video with create_media, but the file has to sit at a public URL — there is no local file upload. list_media returns what the business itself published, with each item's category (COVER, PROFILE, LOGO, INTERIOR, and so on) and view counts, while list_customer_media returns the photos customers contributed. delete_media removes one, which is a good write to hold for approval.

What does it show about how customers find and contact a location?

get_daily_metrics returns a single daily metric over a date range and get_multi_daily_metrics returns several at once — this is where calls and direction requests live. list_search_keywords gives the terms people actually used to find the business in Search and Maps. get_followers reports how many people follow the profile on Google Maps.

Will I hear about it if Google edits my listing or I lose verification?

Yes. Webhooks fire when Google applies its own edit to a location's hours, address or other details, when a location is flagged as a duplicate of another listing, when a location stops being verified so your edits no longer show, and when verification or eligibility status changes. get_verification_state returns the current VoiceOfMerchant state on demand. Change detection separately catches a recent review that still has no reply and a new post going live.

Do I have to run or host the Google Business Profile MCP server myself?
