What teams ask before putting ClickUp behind an AI client.

Do I connect ClickUp with OAuth or an API token?

With a token. The connect form asks for one required value, API token, and you paste a personal API token copied from ClickUp. It is a personal token, so the agent works through your own ClickUp account rather than a separate app identity.

Does one connection cover every Workspace I belong to?

Yes. A personal token reaches every Workspace your account is a member of, so the server works across all of them rather than being pinned to one. The first call in most sessions is get_authorized_teams, which returns the Workspace ids you can act on. Point the agent at the id you want before it starts reading tasks.

How does the agent find a specific list or task?

It walks the hierarchy: get_authorized_teams for the Workspace id, then get_spaces, get_folders, get_lists and get_tasks. The step that catches people out is folderless lists — a list created straight inside a space, with no folder above it, comes back from get_folderless_lists rather than get_lists. For questions that span lists, get_filtered_team_tasks queries at the Workspace level instead of drilling down.

How many ClickUp operations does the server expose, and are they all loaded at once?

169 operations across 29 API modules — 66 reads and 103 writes. Only 39 load by default so your client's tool list stays short; the rest are searchable and can be brought in when you need them, or you can turn on the full catalog. The deepest modules are Chat, Tasks, Time tracking, Views, Lists and Comments, followed by Guests, Docs and Goals.

Can the agent read and set custom fields?

Yes, and custom fields are defined per list, so order matters. Call get_accessible_custom_fields for the list to get the field ids and their types, then set_custom_field_value to write one on a task. Without that first call the agent is guessing at field ids.

Which ClickUp changes can PopMCP watch?

23 events, delivered over ClickUp webhooks. The task-level ones cover created, updated, deleted and moved, plus narrower signals like status changed, assignee changed, priority changed, due date changed and tag changed; there are also comment posted, time tracked, time estimate changed, and list created or deleted. The connection can manage the webhooks themselves too, through create_webhook and get_webhooks.

Do I have to run or host the ClickUp MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?
