What teams ask before putting Bitbucket behind an AI client.

What kind of Bitbucket token does the MCP server need?

An Atlassian API token with scopes for Bitbucket. In your Atlassian account settings open Security, then Create and manage API tokens, then Create API token with scopes; name it, set an expiry (a year at most), choose Bitbucket and tick the scopes: read and write for repositories, pull requests, pipelines and webhooks, and read for workspaces, projects and user. App passwords no longer work: Atlassian switched them off in 2026. A repository, project or workspace access token works too; enter its workspace under More options.

Can I connect more than one Bitbucket workspace?

Yes. After you paste the token PopMCP lists every workspace it reaches and you choose which ones to connect, each into its own PopMCP workspace. A connection stays bound to the workspace you picked: the AI never has to name it, and a request for another workspace is refused rather than answered from the wrong one.

Can the AI review a pull request and explain a failed build?

Yes. get_pull_request_context returns a pull request's details, reviewers and approvals, changed files with line counts, comments with their file and line, tasks and build results in one call. get_failed_pipeline_logs finds the newest failed Pipelines run and reads the end of each failed step's log. With write actions allowed the AI can then comment inline, approve, ask for changes, rerun the pipeline or merge.

Which Bitbucket events can PopMCP watch?

15 of them. Through a workspace webhook PopMCP registers with the connection's own token: code pushed, pull request opened, updated, approved, merged or declined, changes requested, pull request and commit comments, a build started or finished, a repository forked or changed. By comparing snapshots: a new repository and a finished deployment. Registering the webhook needs the webhook scopes and a workspace admin's token.

How many Bitbucket tools load into my AI client?

38 load by default; the rest of the 274 operations stay searchable, from branch restrictions and deploy keys to runners, schedules, Code Insights reports and merge queues. 154 read and 120 write. A read-only connection, or a token with only read scopes, keeps every write tool from running.

Do Bitbucket issues and wikis work?

No. Atlassian removed the Bitbucket Cloud issue tracker and wikis on 20 August 2026 and moved people to Jira and Confluence, so there is nothing left to call. Connect Jira and Confluence in PopMCP for those.

Do I have to run or host the Bitbucket MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Connect Bitbucket in PopMCP first, then run claude mcp add --transport http popmcp https://app.popmcp.com/mcp in a terminal.
