100+ integrations are ready to connect to your AI.Connect your first MCP

Snowflake MCP server for your AI

Ask questions of your data in plain words, explore databases and tables without spending credits, resume or suspend a warehouse, run tasks and procedures, check who has access, and put Cortex AI to work, all as the Snowflake role you choose.

PopMCPSnowflake

Which databases and warehouses can I use, and what role am I connected as?

Supported Snowflake tools

Every operation in Snowflake's SQL API and REST APIs that your credential can call, from tables, warehouses and pipelines to roles, policies, containers, Cortex Analyst, Search and Agents, plus query tools that return rows as named columns with real dates, with the everyday tools loaded by default and the rest one search away.

Connect Snowflake to Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code

Credentials off one Snowflake screen, then an endpoint your client signs into. Nothing to deploy, and nothing to install.

In Snowsight open the account menu, choose View account details and copy your account identifier. Then under Governance & security, Users & roles, open your user and generate a programmatic access token for the role the AI should use, with a longer expiry than the default. Paste both into PopMCP, which checks them before saving. If Snowflake says a network policy is required, the setup guide has the short SQL for an admin, or connect with a private key instead.

Then just ask for the work

  • “Which databases and warehouses can I use, and what role am I connected as?”

    • get_context
  • “What tables are in SALES.PUBLIC, and what columns does the biggest one have?”

    • list_schema_objects
    • get_table
  • “What was revenue by month this year, from the orders table?”

    • get_table
    • run_query
  • “Which warehouses used the most credits in the last 30 days, and which of them never suspend?”

    • run_query
    • list_warehouses
  • “Which of my scheduled tasks are suspended, and run the nightly load now”

    • list_tasks
    • execute_task
  • “Who has access to this role, and what can it do?”

    • list_role_grants
    • list_role_grants_of
  • “Using our revenue semantic view, ask Cortex Analyst for sales by region and run the SQL it writes”

    • ask_cortex_analyst
    • run_query
  • “Add a notes column to the orders table and give the analyst role read access to it”

    • execute_sql

Use Snowflake from the assistant you already open

One hosted endpoint, registered once per client. The same tools and the same permissions, whichever window the request comes from.

Claude DesktopCustom connector

Add the PopMCP URL under Customize → Connectors and the tools appear in every chat.

Claude WebCustom connector

The same endpoint, registered in the browser. Nothing to install on the machine you are working from.

ChatGPTCustom connector

Register PopMCP as a custom connector, then let ChatGPT read and update the account.

CodexDesktop & CLI

Wire the endpoint into Codex or the Codex CLI when a task needs live business context, not a fixture.

OpenCodeCoding agent

Register the remote MCP server in OpenCode's config for terminal-first and scripted agent runs.

ZCodeDesktop app

Add PopMCP as an MCP server in Z.ai's desktop app and work the account from the same window.

Snowflake MCP server questions

What teams ask before putting Snowflake behind an AI client.

What does PopMCP need to connect Snowflake?

Your account identifier and a programmatic access token. The identifier is under View account details in Snowsight's account menu, and a Snowflake link works too. You make the token under Governance & security, Users & roles, by opening your user and choosing Generate new token. Snowflake shows it once. No Snowflake admin is needed to make one for yourself, and no extra Snowflake plan.

Snowflake says a network policy is required. What do I do?

By default Snowflake only accepts a person's token if that user is covered by a network policy. An admin can run the short SQL in the PopMCP setup guide, which creates an authentication policy that drops the requirement for your user, or add PopMCP's address to a network policy. If your account already has a network policy, PopMCP shows the address Snowflake refused so it can be added. Connecting with a private key avoids the requirement altogether.

Does using this cost Snowflake credits?

SQL runs on one of your warehouses, which uses credits while it runs, and Cortex AI calls use credits by tokens. Listing databases, describing tables and reading a result that already finished use no warehouse time. PopMCP adds nothing to your bill. If your user has no default warehouse, PopMCP uses the smallest one your role can see and tells you which, and each query has a timeout so a runaway statement stops.

Can the AI change or delete data?

Only if you allow it. New connections start read-only. On read-only, the tool that runs SQL takes one statement that only reads and refuses everything else before it is sent, and tools that change things are not offered at all. That check cannot see inside a custom function that calls an outside service. For a limit Snowflake itself enforces, restrict the token to a role that only has read access.

Which role and warehouse does it use?

The role the token is restricted to, or your default role if it is not restricted. You can fix a role, warehouse, database and schema under More options when connecting. A role set there cannot be changed by the AI. Your database and schema are only defaults, so the AI can still reach anything else your role can see.

How long does the connection last?

As long as the token. Snowflake tokens last 15 days unless you choose longer when making one, up to 365 days, and an account can set a shorter limit. When it expires, make a new token and connect again. A private key does not expire.

Can I connect an account on private link?

Not through a private link address, because those only work inside your own network. If the same account also accepts public connections, use its public identifier, and allow PopMCP's address if a network policy applies.

Do I have to run or host the Snowflake MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?

Any client that supports a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server: Claude Desktop, Claude Web, Claude Code, ChatGPT custom connectors, Codex and the Codex CLI, OpenCode and Z.ai's ZCode, as well as editors such as Cursor, Windsurf and Zed. Your client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth; the provider credential never leaves the server.

How do I connect Snowflake to Claude Code?

Connect Snowflake in PopMCP first, then run claude mcp add --transport http popmcp https://app.popmcp.com/mcp in a terminal. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp and sign in to PopMCP in the browser window it opens, ticking Snowflake on the consent screen. The Snowflake tools are then available in that session, and no Snowflake credential is stored on your machine.

Why do only 40 of the 422 tools load by default?

Loading 422 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts. PopMCP loads a curated 40-tool set covering the everyday workflows and keeps the rest searchable, so your AI pulls a specialist tool only when a task needs it. Every tool stays searchable, and on Scale the owner can load the full catalog for a teammate's connection.

What is the difference between a tool and a trigger?

A tool is something your AI calls, and there are 422 here. A trigger is something PopMCP watches for you: 6 Snowflake events that can start work on the PopMCP side. Triggers never enter your AI client's context, and none of them ask you to paste a callback URL into Snowflake.
