In Storyblok, open My account, then Account settings, then Personal access tokens, and select Generate New Token. Name it, keep the Spaces scope, generate it and copy it (Storyblok shows it once). Paste it into PopMCP, then pick the spaces to connect and the PopMCP workspace each one goes into.

Storyblok MCP server questions

What teams ask before putting Storyblok behind an AI client.

What does the Storyblok MCP server need to connect?

One personal access token. In Storyblok, open My account, then Account settings, then Personal access tokens, select Generate New Token, name it and copy it right away because Storyblok shows it once. Keep the Spaces scope, which PopMCP uses to list your spaces and read published content. There is no plugin to build or install. PopMCP checks the token, stores it encrypted and sends it from the server, so your AI client never sees it. If the token expires, paste a new one.

Do I need to know which region my space is in?

No. PopMCP asks Storyblok's regional hosts which spaces the token reaches and works out each space's region from its ID, so a space in the United States, Canada, Australia or Europe connects the same way. Spaces in China use Storyblok's separate China service, and PopMCP tries it when the other regions refuse the token.

Can I connect more than one Storyblok space?

Yes, one per PopMCP workspace. After you paste the token, PopMCP lists the spaces it reaches and you pick which to connect and the workspace each one goes into. Each connection is pinned to its space, so the AI never passes a space ID and cannot reach a space mapped to another workspace.

Can the AI publish to my live site by accident?

Edits stay drafts unless the AI publishes them, and the tools tell it to ask you first. For a hard limit, keep a client read-only in PopMCP: every publishing tool is then hidden from it, including the ones Storyblok's API runs as simple reads. You can also generate the token with fewer scopes, because your token and your role in the space always apply.

Will editing a story wipe fields the AI did not mention?

Not with storyblok_update_story_content. Storyblok's update call replaces a story's whole content, so this tool reads the story first, changes only the fields you name, and writes the rest back as they were. A field's new value replaces its old value whole, so ask for nested blocks to be kept when you change them.

How much of the Storyblok API does it cover?

All of it that a personal access token can call: 247 operations across stories, versions, components, presets, assets and folders, shared assets, datasources, tags, releases, workflows, approvals, discussions, tasks, experiments, pipelines, extensions, webhooks, collaborators, roles, statistics and the Content Delivery API, plus 6 tools that do multi-step jobs in one call. Everyday tools load by default and the AI can search for the rest. The two calls left out answer only for a plugin's own sign-in.

Do I have to run or host the Storyblok MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?

Any client that supports a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server: Claude Desktop, Claude Web, Claude Code, ChatGPT custom connectors, Codex and the Codex CLI, OpenCode and Z.ai's ZCode, as well as editors such as Cursor, Windsurf and Zed. Your client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth; the provider credential never leaves the server.

How do I connect Storyblok to Claude Code?

Connect Storyblok in PopMCP first, then run claude mcp add --transport http popmcp https://app.popmcp.com/mcp in a terminal. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp and sign in to PopMCP in the browser window it opens, ticking Storyblok on the consent screen. The Storyblok tools are then available in that session, and no Storyblok credential is stored on your machine.

Why do only 41 of the 253 tools load by default?

Loading 253 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts. PopMCP loads a curated 41-tool set covering the everyday workflows and keeps the rest searchable, so your AI pulls a specialist tool only when a task needs it. Every tool stays searchable, and on Scale the owner can load the full catalog for a teammate's connection.

What is the difference between a tool and a trigger?

A tool is something your AI calls, and there are 253 here. A trigger is something PopMCP watches for you: 19 Storyblok events that can start work on the PopMCP side. Triggers never enter your AI client's context, and none of them ask you to paste a callback URL into Storyblok.
