100+ integrations are ready to connect to your AI.Connect your first MCP

OpenAI MCP server for your AI

Ask for an answer, a picture or a transcript and get it in the chat. Your AI picks a model your key can use, waits for slow work to end, and tells you plainly when a refusal means your credit has run out.

PopMCPOpenAI

List the models my key can use, then ask the newest one to summarize this contract

Supported OpenAI tools

Every current route in OpenAI's REST API, from responses and images to vector stores, managed agents and organization administration, plus tools that read files and generated audio, wait for background work, and add up your costs. Anything that costs money waits for your approval.

Connect OpenAI to Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code

Credentials off one OpenAI screen, then an endpoint your client signs into. Nothing to deploy, and nothing to install.

Paste an API key from platform.openai.com/api-keys. It starts with sk-. PopMCP checks it by listing the models it can use, which costs nothing. To see usage, costs, projects and audit logs as well, add an Admin key under More options.

OpenAI MCP server questions

What teams ask before putting OpenAI behind an AI client.

What does the OpenAI MCP server need to connect?

An API key from your OpenAI API account, made at platform.openai.com/api-keys. Paste it into PopMCP. There is no app to review and nothing to deploy.

Does my ChatGPT plan cover this?

No. OpenAI bills ChatGPT and the API separately. API calls spend credit you add in the billing section of the API dashboard, and if there is none your AI gets a refusal that says so. Connecting and listing models cost nothing.

Will my AI spend my OpenAI credit?

Only if you let it. New PopMCP connections start read-only, so your AI can look around but cannot generate anything until an owner or admin allows write actions. Each tool that spends credit says so.

Why would I add an Admin key?

OpenAI keeps usage, costs, projects, members and audit logs behind a separate kind of key that only reaches those routes. An organization owner makes it in the organization settings. Leave it out if you only want to use models and files.

Can it play generated audio or stream answers?

No. Chat clients show images but do not play audio through a tool. A short clip comes back as base64, and a longer one is saved to your OpenAI files for seven days. Answers arrive whole rather than word by word, and live voice sessions are left out because a tool call cannot hold one open.

What about my project's data region?

If your OpenAI project uses data residency, enter its region code, like eu, under More options. PopMCP then sends model calls to that region's OpenAI address. Anything else can leave it blank.

Do I have to run or host the OpenAI MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?

Any client that supports a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server: Claude Desktop, Claude Web, Claude Code, ChatGPT custom connectors, Codex and the Codex CLI, OpenCode and Z.ai's ZCode, as well as editors such as Cursor, Windsurf and Zed. Your client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth; the provider credential never leaves the server.

How do I connect OpenAI to Claude Code?

Connect OpenAI in PopMCP first, then run claude mcp add --transport http popmcp https://app.popmcp.com/mcp in a terminal. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp and sign in to PopMCP in the browser window it opens, ticking OpenAI on the consent screen. The OpenAI tools are then available in that session, and no OpenAI credential is stored on your machine.

Why do only 33 of the 318 tools load by default?

Loading 318 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts. PopMCP loads a curated 33-tool set covering the everyday workflows and keeps the rest searchable, so your AI pulls a specialist tool only when a task needs it. Every tool stays searchable, and on Scale the owner can load the full catalog for a teammate's connection.

What is the difference between a tool and a trigger?

A tool is something your AI calls, and there are 318 here. A trigger is something PopMCP watches for you: 6 OpenAI events that can start work on the PopMCP side. Triggers never enter your AI client's context, and none of them ask you to paste a callback URL into OpenAI.
