Instantly MCP server questions

What teams ask before putting Instantly behind an AI client.

What kind of Instantly API key does PopMCP need?

An API v2 key with the all:all scope. In Instantly, open Settings → Integrations → API Keys, click Create API Key, name it, choose all:all (at minimum it must include workspaces:read) and copy it, because Instantly shows it only once. Older v1 keys don't work, the key doesn't expire, and there is no OAuth app or redirect URL to set up.

Does the Instantly API work without a paid plan?

No. Instantly only answers API calls for workspaces on a paid plan, so connecting a workspace without one fails with a message saying to upgrade first. A 403 on a tool means the key is missing a scope, which is why the connect form asks for all:all. Instantly also applies a workspace-wide limit of 100 requests a second and 6,000 a minute.

Can one Instantly API key connect every client workspace in my agency?

Yes, if it comes from your admin workspace. The picker lists the key's own workspace plus every accepted sub-workspace in your Instantly workspace group, and you assign each client's workspace to that client's PopMCP workspace. PopMCP then sends Instantly's x-as-workspace header on every call, so each connection acts only on its own sub-workspace.

Can the AI set an Instantly campaign schedule in my own time zone?

Yes. Instantly only accepts its own list of 102 schedule time zones, which leaves out America/New_York, Europe/London and UTC, so PopMCP maps any IANA zone, abbreviation such as EST or AEST, or UTC offset to the allowed zone with the same local clock (or the closest match): New York becomes America/Detroit. Day names become Instantly's 0 to 6 map and "9am" becomes 09:00. A campaign created without a schedule runs Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00, America/Chicago.

Can the AI reply to leads from the Instantly Unibox?

Yes. list_emails reads the Unibox filtered by received, unread, campaign or lead, and reply_to_email sends a real reply as soon as the AI calls it, filling the sending inbox and the Re: subject from the original email when they're left out. Instantly throttles list_emails to 20 requests a minute, so the agent filters rather than paging through everything. update_lead_interest_status accepts plain words such as "meeting booked".

Does the AI have to format Instantly sequences and lead fields exactly?

No. create_campaign accepts steps with a subject, body and delay, and PopMCP folds them into Instantly's variants format, defaults the delay to 2 days and turns plain-text line breaks into HTML. Lead fields Instantly doesn't know become custom variables instead of being rejected, and bulk_add_leads takes up to 1,000 leads per call. Because update_campaign replaces the whole sequence, the tool tells the agent to read the campaign first.

Do I have to run or host the Instantly MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?

Any client that supports a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server: Claude Desktop, Claude Web, ChatGPT custom connectors, Codex and the Codex CLI, OpenCode and Z.ai's ZCode, as well as editors such as Cursor, Windsurf and Zed. Your client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth; the provider credential never leaves the server.

Why do only 49 of the 255 tools load by default?

Loading 255 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts. PopMCP loads a curated 49-tool set covering the everyday workflows and keeps the rest searchable, so your AI pulls a specialist tool only when a task needs it. Every tool stays searchable, and on Scale the owner can load the full catalog for a teammate's connection.

What is the difference between a tool and a trigger?

A tool is something your AI calls, and there are 255 here. A trigger is an event PopMCP watches for on its own. Instantly has no triggers yet, so everything on this page happens when your AI calls a tool.
