Grin MCP server questions

What teams ask before putting Grin behind an AI client.

What do I need to connect Grin?

One value: an API key from Account Settings, API Integration in Grin, at app.grin.co/settings/account/integrations/api. PopMCP checks it with Grin and reads your brand names with it, so there is nothing else to copy and no app to register.

Can the AI pay creators?

No. Grin's API can read payments, payables and deposits, but it has no way to send money. Activating a creator is the one thing to watch: it creates real orders, payables, deliverables and affiliate links, so the tools only do it when told to, and they ask the AI to check with you first.

What can the AI change?

It can add, change and delete contacts, their social profiles and custom properties, add contacts to an activation, create and change affiliate links, and manage tags and pipeline stages. Changing a link's payout changes what that creator earns. Choose read-only access in PopMCP to rule all of this out.

Can it search for a creator?

Grin's API has no search, so find_contact looks up an email where Grin allows it and otherwise reads through your contacts, up to 1,250 of them. It says so when there were more than that, so not finding someone is not proof they are absent. create_or_update_contact uses the same check and adds nobody it could not rule out.

How fast can it go?

Grin limits requests and publishes no number. The summary and overview tools do several steps in one call to use fewer. If Grin's limit stops a summary partway, it gives the totals counted so far and says it stopped early.

What can't it do?

Grin's API cannot send a payment, put a tag on a contact, create or edit a campaign, or upload content, so those stay in Grin. It also offers no webhooks. Each connection reaches one Grin account, so a second account needs its own key.

Do I have to run or host the Grin MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.

Which AI clients can use this MCP server?

Any client that supports a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server: Claude Desktop, Claude Web, Claude Code, ChatGPT custom connectors, Codex and the Codex CLI, OpenCode and Z.ai's ZCode, as well as editors such as Cursor, Windsurf and Zed. Your client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth; the provider credential never leaves the server.

How do I connect Grin to Claude Code?

Connect Grin in PopMCP first, then run claude mcp add --transport http popmcp https://app.popmcp.com/mcp in a terminal. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp and sign in to PopMCP in the browser window it opens, ticking Grin on the consent screen. The Grin tools are then available in that session, and no Grin credential is stored on your machine.

Why do only 43 of the 180 tools load by default?

Loading 180 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts. PopMCP loads a curated 43-tool set covering the everyday workflows and keeps the rest searchable, so your AI pulls a specialist tool only when a task needs it. What is the difference between a tool and a trigger?

A tool is something your AI calls, and there are 180 here. A trigger is something PopMCP watches for you: 8 Grin events that can start work on the PopMCP side. Triggers never enter your AI client's context, and none of them ask you to paste a callback URL into Grin.
