••••••••••••3f7aSearching and reading Alerts and Projects only read. Creating or deleting an Alert or a Project, and saving links, are writes and wait until an owner or admin allows write actions; new connections start read-only. Deleting is permanent, and an Alert with email turned on sends to a real inbox. Tick BuzzSumo on the PopMCP consent screen only for clients that need it.
Drop the PopMCP URL into Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex or any other supported client. It signs in through PopMCP with OAuth, so your BuzzSumo credential never leaves the server.
app.popmcp.com/mcpAsk for something harmless before the agent changes anything. Writes run as soon as it calls them, so confirm it reads the right account first.

Then just ask for the work
“What are the most shared articles on email marketing this month, what is trending on it today, and who are the influencers”
“Catch me up on what people have said about our brand this week”
“How many shares did these three blog posts get, and who shared the best one”
“Save the five most shared articles from our competitor's site to my Q4 research Project”
One hosted endpoint, registered once per client. The same tools and the same permissions, whichever window the request comes from.
Add the PopMCP URL under Customize → Connectors and the tools appear in every chat.
The same endpoint, registered in the browser. Nothing to install on the machine you are working from.
Register PopMCP as a custom connector, then let ChatGPT read and update the account.
Wire the endpoint into Codex or the Codex CLI when a task needs live business context, not a fixture.
Register the remote MCP server in OpenCode's config for terminal-first and scripted agent runs.
Add PopMCP as an MCP server in Z.ai's desktop app and work the account from the same window.
FAQ
What teams ask before putting BuzzSumo behind an AI client.
BuzzSumo says API access comes with all of its paid plans. Without one, you can ask BuzzSumo for a trial key through the form linked from its API docs, and it approves those case by case.
BuzzSumo's docs give paid web plans 100 Search API calls a month, and you can apply for more. Its pages give different figures for the Account API, which covers Alerts and Projects: 100,000 a month in one place and 100 in another. When BuzzSumo reports the amount left, it appears on each answer, and connecting spends no search.
It covers everything in BuzzSumo's API. That API has no endpoints for the app's Questions search or its YouTube, Facebook and Reddit analyzers, so those are not here. Questions you saved to a Project can be read, and influencer search covers Twitter profiles.
There is a tool for them, but BuzzSumo describes its Backlinks API as a private beta. If your account does not have it yet, the tool says so.
No. Titles, bios and mentions come from other websites, so they come back marked as third-party content, and the AI is told never to act on instructions inside them.
No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.
Any client that supports a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server: Claude Desktop, Claude Web, Claude Code, ChatGPT custom connectors, Codex and the Codex CLI, OpenCode and Z.ai's ZCode, as well as editors such as Cursor, Windsurf and Zed. Your client signs in to PopMCP with OAuth; the provider credential never leaves the server.
Connect BuzzSumo in PopMCP first, then run claude mcp add --transport http popmcp https://app.popmcp.com/mcp in a terminal. Inside Claude Code, run /mcp and sign in to PopMCP in the browser window it opens, ticking BuzzSumo on the consent screen. The BuzzSumo tools are then available in that session, and no BuzzSumo credential is stored on your machine.
Loading 26 tool definitions into every conversation burns context before the work starts. PopMCP loads a curated 24-tool set covering the everyday workflows and keeps the rest searchable, so your AI pulls a specialist tool only when a task needs it. Every tool stays searchable, and on Scale the owner can load the full catalog for a teammate's connection.
A tool is something your AI calls, and there are 26 here. A trigger is an event PopMCP watches for on its own. BuzzSumo has no triggers yet, so everything on this page happens when your AI calls a tool.
Launch a hosted MCP endpoint for BuzzSumo, keep tool access under control, and start testing real workflow prompts right away.
