What teams ask before putting AliExpress behind an AI client.

Do I need my own AliExpress developer app to connect?

Yes. Create one at open.aliexpress.com, add the callback URL PopMCP shows you, then paste that app's App Key and App Secret into the connect form and authorize once in your browser. The Affiliate tracking ID field is optional and only matters if you plan to use the affiliate tools. Your AliExpress password is never shared with PopMCP.

How does the agent find products in the catalog?

ds_text_search takes a keyword and ds_image_search_v2 takes a picture, while ds_category_tree_get walks the category structure when you would rather browse than guess. Once you have an item, ds_product_get returns the listing, ds_product_wholesale_get the wholesale pricing, and affiliate_product_sku_detail_get every SKU with price, specifications and delivery info. For sourcing rather than lookup, affiliate_hotproduct_query and affiliate_product_smartmatch are the discovery side.

Can the agent actually place and pay for dropshipping orders?

Yes. ds_freight_query returns the delivery options and price, ds_order_create places the order, and ds_order_afterpay handles the pay step. Those are writes, so keep the connection read-only while you are testing, or turn on approval-required-for-writes so a person signs off before money moves. Afterwards, trade_ds_order_get and ds_order_tracking_get follow the order and the parcel.

How many AliExpress operations does PopMCP expose?

201 operations across 18 API modules, split 133 read and 68 write. 29 load into your AI client by default and the rest stay searchable, so the tool list does not swamp the model's context. The biggest modules are Product management (50), Seller account (24), Affiliate (16), Dropshipping (16) and Logistics (16).

Which AliExpress events can PopMCP watch?

The order lifecycle is covered by Order placed, Order awaiting shipment, Order status changed and Order cancelled, alongside Dispute opened and Dispute updated. On the catalog side there is Product published, Product status changed, Stock level changed and Bulk upload finished. Package status changed, Affiliate order recorded, Shop health warning and Settlement entry added cover fulfilment, commission and money. Why are there two separate sets of order and freight tools?

Dropshipping and selling on AliExpress are different businesses in the API, and they live in separate modules. If you buy to fulfill, you live in ds_order_create, ds_order_afterpay, trade_ds_order_get and ds_order_tracking_get; if you sell, the Seller orders and Disputes modules are the ones you want. Freight splits the same way, with ds_freight_query for dropshipping quotes and logistics_buyer_freight_calculate for the buyer-side calculation. Point an agent at the wrong pair and the request comes back empty.

Do I have to run or host the AliExpress MCP server myself?

No. PopMCP hosts it and gives you a Streamable HTTP MCP URL. There is nothing to deploy, no callback URL to register, and no infrastructure to keep running or patch.
