What teams ask before putting Twilio behind an AI client.

Where do I get the Account SID and Auth Token, and is there an OAuth step?

Both sit on the Twilio Console homepage at console.twilio.com. The connect form asks for Account SID as a text field and Auth Token as a password field, and that is the whole flow — no OAuth popup, no redirect URL to register, nothing to refresh later. PopMCP authenticates server-side over HTTPS using HTTP Basic.

Which Twilio products does a single connection cover?

One credential covers all of Twilio: SMS, MMS and WhatsApp, voice calls, phone numbers, Verify for OTPs, Lookups, Conversations, Messaging Services, Content templates and Studio. Each tool targets the right Twilio product host on its own, so you never pick a base URL or connect Verify and Messaging as separate accounts. The largest modules are Core, Conversations, Flex, Taskrouter, Messaging and Verify.

How many Twilio operations are available, and why doesn't my AI client load them all?

The connector exposes 1,104 operations across 30 API modules — 567 read and 537 write. Only 44 load into your client by default and the rest stay searchable, so the agent can reach for a Taskrouter or Trusthub call when it needs one instead of pushing a thousand tools into every conversation. If you want more loaded up front, turn on the full catalog for the connection.

Can the agent actually send messages and place calls, or is it read-only?

It can send. create_message sends SMS, MMS and WhatsApp, create_call places an outbound call to a phone, SIP-enabled endpoint or Twilio Client connection, and studio_create_execution starts a Studio Flow execution. Set the connection to read-only and those drop away, leaving the fetch and list tools; on full access, approval-required-for-writes holds each send for a human yes.

What can it delete, and what can be walked back?

delete_message removes a Message resource from the account, delete_recording removes a recording, and delete_incoming_phone_number removes a number belonging to the account. update_message is the softer instrument — it redacts message body text and cancels messages that have not sent yet. These are the calls most teams put behind write approval.

How many Twilio events can PopMCP watch, and which ones?

23 triggers, spanning messaging, voice and account activity: Message received, Message sent, Message delivery failed, Call completed, Call missed, Call failed, Recording available, Call recording available, Transcription ready, Conference ended, Error alert raised, Account change logged and Phone number added among them. Most are polled. Usage threshold crossed arrives by webhook when spend or volume in a usage category passes a limit you set, while Transcription ready and Phone number added run on change detection.

Do I have to run or host the Twilio MCP server myself?
